Why we actually finish games before reviewing them

Why we actually finish games before reviewing them

October 14, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

A lot of games writing lives and dies in the first hour, because that's when a game is trying hardest to impress you. Tutorials are polished, mechanics are fresh, and everything feels generous. Then week two arrives and the truth shows up.

We've made it a rule to push games well past that honeymoon phase. Progression systems that felt exciting on day one sometimes turn into grind walls by day ten, and you only learn that by playing.

This is slower, obviously. It means we cover fewer games than sites that churn out day-one takes. But it also means our verdicts hold up months later, which is the whole point of a review.

It's not glamorous. There are evenings where finishing a mediocre game feels like homework. But that's the job we signed up for, and it's why we trust our own recommendations.

When you read a rating here, know that someone actually saw the endgame. That's the promise, and we intend to keep it.
