Can strategy games really work on a touchscreen?

Strategy games and touchscreens have a rocky history. Precision matters, and fat fingers don't help. Yet every so often a game figures it out, and playing Ironline Command reminded me it's absolutely possible.

The trick is designing around the limitation instead of fighting it. Ironline keeps unit counts low and leans on gesture shortcuts, so you're issuing meaningful orders rather than micromanaging a hundred sprites. Fewer things to touch means fewer misclicks.

The supply-line focus helps too. Because your decisions are about positioning and cutting off resources rather than twitchy control, the pace fits a phone. You can pause, think, and act without needing pixel-perfect taps.

Not every strategy game manages this. Plenty just port a PC interface and hope for the best, and those are miserable. The good ones rethink the whole input model.

If you've been burned by clunky mobile strategy before, it's worth giving the genre another shot with a title actually built for touch.
